| The ‘Memory Box’ series is an investigation that connects unrelated relics from the early 20th century and fuses them together in a nostalgic moment that appears suspended in time. Working with antique metal tins, I take inspiration from the product’s advertising language in order to select found vintage photos that compliment the ad’s budding narrative. Combining the photos with tiny poems, the interior of the tin acts as a vessel that both houses the wax-sealed collages and allows the interior and exterior experience to fuse together as one. Playing upon our curiosity, the desire to open the container, then leads to an unexpected reveal as each tiny tin transforms into a time machine, transporting a moment of the past into a visceral experience of the present. |
